Yes, I finally gave in and bought myself a Mexican Strat. Several factors influenced this - it was rather cheap, my band was in need of blatant whammy abuse, I'm paranoid lugging about my vintage Les Paul, and it was purple. In the end it served neither purpose since I ended up blocking the whammy and continued to mostly use the Gibson. For what it cost, it's a rather well made instrument with quite a nice sound. I replaced the neck and bridge pick-ups with late 70's Fender alnicos with flat pole pieces and I'll replace the middle one with a Seymour Duncan of a similar type. I love the twang it produces and, when overdriven, I get the tone found on Captain Beefheart albums. Yes, I'm a complete and utter "Tone-Slut".
